Email Operations Coordinator

About the role

As Email Operations Coordinator you will play a critical role in supporting Democracy Docket’s free newsletters, premium content and audience growth. You will work to ensure that Democracy Docket email campaigns are placed, formatted correctly and sent out in a timely manner. You will assist the Paid Content and Audience Growth Editor in loading newsletter copy, ad sponsorships, sign up pages, automations and other campaigns to grow both free and premium subscriber bases. Our newsletters are among our top offerings and you will be expected to use data analysis and creative thinking to bolster the organization’s growth and marketing strategy. Entry-level and junior-level applicants are encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities

  • Load and format all free newsletter copy into our email management system, including our daily, weekly and topic-focused newsletters.
  • Load and format all paid newsletter copy into our email management system, including but not limited to: two monthly newsletters, weekend reading lists, bimonthly Q&As, event invitations.
  • Place and track all ad sponsorships into our free daily and weekly newsletters. 
  • Ensure consistent formatting across email content and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Build subscriber sign up pages with proper sourcing and tracking information.
  • Set up automations and email journeys to grow and sustain subscriber audience.
  • Assist with data analytics and pull KPI reports for audience growth meetings.
  • Coordinate and track surveys and audience responses.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years in email marketing or news operations preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. 
  • Strong attention to detail is essential for success in this role.
  • Knack for troubleshooting and problem solving, often independently or with little supervision.
  • Collaborative team player who can communicate effectively.
  • Good eye for formatting and design consistency across content.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills, master platforms and adapt to technology quickly. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to experiment with new tactics and think creatively. 
  • Highly organized.

Skills

  • Experience using Mailchimp or similar newsletter platform.
  • Familiarity with Zapier or similar automation tool preferred.
  • Experience with Canva or similar design platform.
  • HTML knowledge a plus, but not required.

This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid in-office schedule. The business hours for this role are generally 9-6 pm ET, with occasional 10-7 pm ET shifts required.  The annual salary range for this position is $55,000-72,000, commensurate with experience. Case Researcher and Writer

About the role

Passionate about voting rights and democracy during this vital time in our country’s history? Democracy Docket is looking to hire a Case Researcher and Writer. The Case Researcher and Writer will be responsible for tracking and reporting on legal developments in key battleground states during this critical election and beyond including Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. This position is an opportunity to cover some of the most important voting and election stories of our time. Prior writing or journalism experience is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in voting rights and the courts. This is not an entry-level position. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for tracking case developments and deadlines in several battleground states (AZ, GA, NV) — this includes updating case descriptions, flagging case developments, updating internal tracker and internal calendar. 
  • Monitor updates from junior case trackers in 20-22 secondary states to generate content ideas for significant case developments.
  • Write news articles on breaking litigation developments in assigned battleground and secondary states on a regular basis; write one analysis article a month. 
  • Develop content ideas related to themes and updates from litigation; collaborate with social and writing teams. 
  • Fact check, copy edit and proofread content as needed  (i.e. breaking news articles, analysis, and social media content).
  • Perform research tasks related to litigation (i.e. read court pleadings, listen to court proceedings).
  • Work under the supervision and direction of the Legal Content Editor.
  • Performs other related duties and projects. 

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in research, journalism or relevant court-focused role. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. 
  • Strong research experience and ability to write news articles on legal developments. 
  • Understanding and enthusiasm for voting rights, elections, progressive politics and the courts.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Strong reading comprehension, ability to read and synthesize information in a quick manner.

Skills

  • Experience using legal databases  (i.e. Pacer, docketing platforms, LexisNexis WestLaw) and/or working with case documents.
  • Accurate data entry skills and experience with shared databases. 

This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid in-office schedule. Our general business hours are 9-6 pm ET, though this role will require 10-7 pm or 11-8 pm ET shifts around the election and post-election period. The annual salary range for this position is $67,000-78,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision plans; 401(k) matching benefits; paid time off.
