Alabama Census Data Challenge
Alabama v. U.S. Department of Commerce
Lawsuit brought by the state of Alabama, Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.) and individual voters against the U.S. Commerce Department and the Bureau of the Census challenging their decision to use the differential privacy method to produce redistricting data to the states and the delay in producing the data. The court denied the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction and their petition for a writ of mandamus and dismissed certain claims. The parties filed for a joint motion to stay the case pending further court actions, which the court granted. The plaintiffs then filed a notice of voluntary dismissal.
