Arizona Voter Suppression Laws (Mi Familia Vota)
Mi Familia Vota v. Fontes
Lawsuit filed by Mi Familia Vota, Arizona Coalition for Change, Living United for Change in Arizona and Chispa Arizona against Arizona challenging two voter suppression laws that purge voters from the state’s permanent early voting rolls and change the cure process for mail-in ballots. The complaint alleges these laws violate the First, 14th and 15th Amendments as well as Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by burdening the right to vote, particularly among voters of color in Arizona. The Republican National Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee (Republican committees) along with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (Democratic committees) intervened in the case.
STATUS: On Jan. 13, 2025, Democratic committee intervenors moved to voluntarily dismiss their complaint. The plaintiffs’ complaint is still active. Litigation is ongoing in trial court.
