California Marin County Voter Roll Maintenance Challenge
Drouillard v. Roberts
Lawsuit filed by seven voters against California Secretary of State Shirley Weber (D) and Marin County Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts challenging Marin County’s voter roll maintenance practices. The voters claim the county’s voter rolls include voters who are no longer eligible to vote in the state. They argue the county’s failure to maintain accurate voter rolls violates the Fourteenth Amendment, the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). The voters ask the court to require that Marin County remove ineligible voters from the county’s voter rolls and implement a verification system to ensure only eligible voters are mailed ballots in future elections. They also ask the court to order the county to sequester ballots cast by ineligible voters to prevent them from being counted in future elections.
STATUS: The voters filed their complaint on Oct. 7, 2024. The defendants have not responded yet.
