Colorado Congressional Redistricting
In re: Colorado Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission
Petition filed in the Colorado Supreme Court by Colorado’s Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission to begin the congressional review process required by the Colorado Constitution. An amendment passed in 2018 requires the Colorado Supreme Court to review both passed congressional and legislative maps and determine if they comply with the state’s redistricting criteria. The court, as asked in the petition, established a schedule for drafting and submitting a final congressional map. Interested parties were invited to submit briefing in support of or against the final map and attend an oral argument on Oct. 12 to further express their views; a recording of the oral argument can be viewed here. The state Supreme Court approved the congressional map, finding that the “Commission did not abuse its direction
in applying the substantive criteria set forth in…of the Colorado Constitution in adopting the plan.”
