Georgia Voter Suppression Law (Coalition for Good Governance)
Coalition for Good Governance v. Raffensperger
Lawsuit brought by the Coalition for Good Governance and individual voters against Georgia challenging the passage of Senate Bill 202, a voter suppression law. The lawsuit challenges several provisions of S.B. 202, including the State Election Board takeover provision, gag rule, photography ban, absentee voting provisions and more as violations of the right to vote and free speech. The Republican National Committee (RNC), National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and Georgia Republican Party intervened in the case to protect S.B. 202. The court granted the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction in part, enjoining the state from implementing a photography ban of completed ballots, and denied relief as to the other requests.
STATUS: Litigation is ongoing. A hearing on Georgia and the RNC’s motion for summary judgment is scheduled for July 2, 2024.
