Georgia Voting System Encryption Key Challenge
DeKalb County Republican Party v. Raffensperger
Lawsuit filed by the DeKalb Republican Party (DeKalb GOP) against Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) challenging the state’s use of Dominion Voting Systems because Dominion’s encryption keys are not properly secured and available to anyone with access to a county election system. DeKalb GOP argues that voting systems with unsecured encryption keys violate the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission’s (EAC) voting system certification requirements and Georgia state law. DeKalb GOP asks the court to order the secretary of state to bring the state’s Dominion Voting Systems in compliance with the EAC requirements and maintain more secure password-protected encryption keys.
DeKalb GOP filed their lawsuit on Aug. 29, 2024.
On Oct. 4, 2024, the judge concluded that the machines were correctly certified and denied the plaintiffs’ petition for a writ of mandamus.
On Oct. 11, the DeKalb GOP appealed the ruling to the Georgia Supreme Court.
On Oct. 15 and Oct. 21, DeKalb GOP filed emergency motions for relief in the Georgia Court of Appeals. Both motions were denied.
STATUS: Litigation is ongoing in the Georgia Supreme Court.
