Massachusetts Voter Roll Access Challenge
The Committee for Massachusetts Voter Identification Ballot Question v. Galvin
Lawsuit filed by The Committee for Massachusetts Voter Identification Ballot Question against Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts William F. Galvin (D) challenging his office’s refusal to provide the committee access to a statewide voter registration list and voter registration data the state shared with the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC). The plaintiff argues that this violates the Public Disclosure Provision of the National Voter Registration Act, which requires states to maintain publicly accessible statewide vote registrations lists. The plaintiff asks the court to order the secretary of the commonwealth’s office to provide it with a voter registration list and ERIC data and permanently block his office from denying similar requests in the future.
STATUS: The plaintiff filed its complaint on Aug. 6, 2024. The secretary of the commonwealth responded on Sept. 13, 2024. Litigation is ongoing.
