Michigan Voter Intimidation Challenge
American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan v. Does 1-6
Lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan (ACLU) against six individuals challenging alleged voter intimidation activities at several polling places in Michigan on Election Day. ACLU claims the individuals intimidated Michigan voters by traveling to multiple polling locations to illegally record voters and otherwise threaten voters. ACLU argues the individuals “have already prevented Michiganders from casting their vote free from intimidation, threats, harassments, and coercion” in violation of the Voting Rights Act, Ku Klux Klan Act and Michigan law. ACLU asks the court to prohibit the individuals from intimidating or threatening voters on Election Day or engaging in disruptive conduct related to post-election processes.
RESULT: The court granted ACLU’s motion for a temporary restraining order, meaning the individuals are banned from engaging in voter intimidation activities through and after Nov. 5, 2024. On Nov. 7, the ACLU voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit.
