Minnesota Impasse Litigation
Sachs v. Simon
Lawsuit brought by individual voters challenging Minnesota’s legislative and congressional maps drawn with 2020 census data. Originally filed in state county court, the petitioners then asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to declare Minnesota’s current legislative and congressional maps unconstitutional and implement new maps that adhere to the constitutional requirement of one person, one vote. A special redistricting panel was appointed to hear and decide the case, which was consolidated with a similar case, Wattson v. Simon.
The parties’ proposed redistricting plans can be found here. An oral argument on proposed redistricting plans was held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, after which the panel adopted new maps. The panel’s final maps can be viewed here.
