New Jersey Voter Roll Maintenance Challenge
Public Interest Legal Foundation v. Way
Lawsuit filed by the right-wing Public Legal Interest Foundation (PILF) challenging the New Jersey’s alleged failure to share and maintain its voter rolls. PILF claims that the New Jersey secretary of state is denying the organization access to view voter list maintenance records in violation of the National Voter Registration Act’s public disclosure provision. PILF is seeking access to these records in order to, in its words, “assess compliance by New Jersey with state and federal voter list maintenance obligations.” The lawsuit asks the court to order the secretary of state to provide PILF with the requested records. On Feb. 1, 2023, PILF voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit.
