New York 17th Congressional District Westchester County Jail Absentee Ballots Challenge
Lawler v. Westchester County Board of Elections
Petition filed by Rep. Mike Lawler, incumbent and current GOP candidate for New York’s 17th Congressional District, and a voter challenging certain absentee ballots cast by incarcerated voters at the Westchester County Jail. Lawler alleges that the contested votes are from around 135 individuals, some of whom are likely ineligible to vote from the address of the jail since they previously registered from addresses located in different congressional districts. Lawler seeks to stop the counting and processing of absentee ballots cast by voters registered at the Westchester County Jail in order to allow for comprehensive court review of such ballots. The suit asks the court to set aside the contested ballots so the plaintiffs can confirm whether they were cast by voters who are eligible to vote for the 17th Congressional District and for other public positions specific to Valhalla, New York.
RESULT: Lawler filed the petition on Nov. 5, 2024. The judge denied the petition on Nov. 5 following a hearing.
