Washington, D.C. Trump Election Integrity Executive Order Challenge (LWV)
League of Women Voters Education Fund v. Trump
Lawsuit filed by the League of Women Voters, Hispanic Federation, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and other advocacy organizations against President Donald Trump, the Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) and its members challenging a provision of Executive Order 14248 that directs the EAC to add a documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) requirement to the federal voter registration form. The plaintiffs allege that Trump lacks authority to direct the EAC to do anything since Congress created the EAC as an independent agency. They also claim the DPOC provision violates the National Voter Registration Act which prohibits the addition of a DPOC requirement to the federal registration form without first finding that it is necessary to assess a voter’s eligibility. The plaintiffs seek an order blocking the EAC from taking any action to change the federal voter registration form.
STATUS: This case has been consolidated with the two other lawsuits challenging Trump’s executive order on election integrity. All future filings and updates can be found in League of United Latin American Citizens v. Executive Office of the President.
