Wisconsin Milwaukee Voter Roll Maintenance Challenge
Eucke v. Wisconsin Elections Commission
Lawsuit filed by three voters against the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) and the City of Milwaukee Election Commission (Milwaukee Commission) challenging the commissions’ failure to maintain accurate voter rolls in violation of Wisconsin law. The plaintiffs argue that the Milwaukee Commission and WEC failed to investigate and remedy nearly 150,000 voter registrations with address irregularities. According to the complaint, this violates Wisconsin laws that require the commissions to maintain accurate voter rolls. The plaintiffs ask the court to order the defendants to mail a notice to each of the nearly 150,000 voters and to change their statuses to inactive if they do not reply within 30 days. The plaintiffs also ask that WEC be ordered to instruct all local election officials across the state to do the same.
RESULT: On Oct. 28, the court dismissed the lawsuit.
